This city is renowned not only for its down-home Southern and soul food, but increasingly for world-class and innovative restaurants that are amongst the finest in the country. Atlanta has sophisticated kitchens that are run by some of the top chefs in the world and enough variety to keep your dining fresh 365 days a year.
If you're visiting the city and plan on staying downtown your dining options are seemingly unlimited. Your hotels are always a great place to start. The classy Ritz-Carlton offers several attractive options, including the casual Atlanta Grill. Decorated with vintage Atlanta photos, the Grill's breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu sport a Southern accent.
At the Four Seasons, Park 75 is the definition of fine dining. The elegant restaurant also serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner six days with a fabulous brunch on Sunday. Just a short walk from the city's art complex, the innovate menu at this upscale restaurant is loaded with classic American favorites like juicy steaks, seafood and pricier menu items like caviar. The restaurant also features a full vegetarian menu for those that shy away from meat.
Of course you'll find plenty of other hotel options in the heart of the city including such downtown destinations as Amerisuites Atlanta Downtown , the Courtyard By Marriott Downtown and the Quality Hotel Downtown . All three locations have dining on site and are within steps of hundreds of restaurants, shopping centers and family attractions.
Just off of Crescent Avenue, you can experience the great taste of the South with one visit to the South City Kitchen. The trendy eatery has modern art covering its walls and hungry patrons filling its tables during all hours of the day. Many file in for such delicacies as fried green tomatoes with goat cheese, she-crab soup and buttermilk fried chicken. Crab hash, served with poached eggs and chive hollandaise, is just another unique menu item. You trip wouldn't be complete without an oversized slice of the kitchen's chocolate pecan pie.
If you want to experience the latest that Atlanta has to offer, you'll want to make the short trip from downtown to Buckhead Village . Buckhead is the dining leader in the city, and for good reason, with more new restaurants and more variety in concentrated area than any other section of the city. The neighborhood is scattered with everything from upscale establishments that require coat and tie to casual burger joints, making for a wide array of places and cuisine from which to choose.
Stay the weekend in Buckhead. With plenty of lodging in the village, you can leave the rental car parked at your hotel at take in the area by foot. If you like having a little more room to spread out, try the Summerfield Suites Buckhead . The Summerfield Suites Hotel is an upscale, all-suite property that features one and two bedroom luxury suites.

Seafood lovers will be instantly impressed with the Atlanta Fish Market's comfortable, neighborhood atmosphere and great seafood. With more than 100 fresh varieties from the deep flown in fresh and a menu printed twice daily, Atlanta Fish Market has something for everyone. With five television sets, the adjoining Geechee Crab lounge is a comfortable place to watch a game, catch up on the latest news or simply relax with a cocktail before dinner.

An upscale atmosphere with reasonably priced food, it's a location the entire family can enjoy. Signature items include Homemade Potato Chips with Warm Maytag Blue Cheese, Sweet & Sour Calamari, Veal Meatloaf with Wild Mushrooms and White Chocolate Banana Crème Pie are just a few of the many tasty choices.
Steakhouses are plentiful in the city. Two of the finest are The Palm and Chop's. The Palm is located on busy Peachtree Road and has long been known for it's excellent steak and seafood. The festive atmosphere is great for couples of large, rowdy family outings. The gigantic lobster (which typically weighs between 3 and 5 pounds) is one of the restaurants main attractions. Chop's is a bit more refined and more expensive. Dine for two with the 3-pound porterhouse steak. The seafood also receives top billing from the regulars.
For Italian dining, La Grotta Ristorante is just down the street from The Palms. Consistently voted one of the top Italian restaurants in the city, La Grotta specializes in authentic Northern Italian cuisine. The handmade ravioli stuffed with goat cheese and covered with sun-dried tomato sauce is a winning combination, while the veal and seafood are simply outstanding. The wine list is excellent with emphasis on Italian wines and few California and French selections sprinkled in for good measure.
Whether you're looking for a quick burger or a steak dinner, you're sure to find a restaurant in Atlanta to meet all of your dining needs. The relaxed Southern hospitality is a trademark of Atlanta restaurants, something that you're not going to experience in other major metropolitan areas. |
